What if I’ve unlocked it she thought, pulling on the extendable kitchen sink faucet. What if I’ve tapped into whatever it is that exists out there — the Universe? She sprayed at some stuck-on bits of food still clinging to the white porcelain. If I’m able to access these thoughts, these abilities, I can live all lives at once, learn everything I’ve ever dreamed of, become the woman I always wanted to be. She reached for the scrub brush by the sink. This one just won’t come off.

Remember when

Sundays were the worst days we

Lived for Fridays and

Lazy Saturdays in bed

Laughing, kissing, making

Love but on Sundays we had to go

Back home and knew it would be

A full week before we could see each

Other and I hated Sunday

Because it stole a piece of our happiness,

Little by little, bit by bit, until

There were no more Fridays or Saturdays,

Only Sundays.

Do you ever hold your breath for so long that your Apple Watch buzzes at you to breathe?

Do you do it accidentally at first, not realizing you’re holding your breath just enough to block out an unpleasant sound, smell, or thought?

And then once you realize holding your breath gets its attention, do you then start testing it, to see how long you can hold it before it notices you’re not breathing?

And as you’re floating to the bottom of the pool, you remember the sound of the sales guy’s voice telling you about the watch’s deep sea diving capacities while you hurried him along to complete your purchase.

You should have sprung for the newer model.
